Refurbished

Refurbished is a mobile game concept featuring character, icon and prop design, environmental assets, and UI concepts. It was developed as a collaborative project between UI & motion Designer Dallas McKinnon and myself; the following is my contribution: the art and visual development.

The game follows a raccoon named Scraps that collects food waste from the night market he lives in to make into clothing for his animal neighbours. Made to encourage the switch to bio-textiles, we wanted to increase awareness about plastic and polyester alternatives in a fun and accessible way.

Scraps is a raccoon that lives in a night market, scavenging for food to turn into clothes for his friends. He swings between stalls with his trusty hanger, and uses his hand-made pack to collect all the food waste he can find before the night is over. Running a shop in direct competition with Scraps is Roach, using trash that stinks up the neighbourhood. He can be found scuttling around, sometimes stopping by Scraps’ workshop to cause problems for his fellow entrepreneur. Nestor is the oldest squirrel in the park next to the night market. He was one of Scraps very first customers, and always comes back for more.

A series of game assets used in the Collection segment of the game, where the player must direct scraps around the night market to gather as much food waste as possible before the timer runs out.

This shop background is featured in the sales portion of the game, where the players get to interact as Scraps trying to convince customers to buy his environmentally-friendly wares.
